In our latest edition of the Seller Spotlight Blog Series, we sat down with the founder of PetShaper to discuss the inspiration behind why he started this business.

Like many entrepreneurs, the founders of PetShaper stumbled upon their business idea from solving a personal problem. As a family with multiple furry friends, they found the process of grooming their dogs at home to be incredibly time-consuming and tedious. Spending nearly two hours just to groom one dog was simply unsustainable.

The search for a better solution led them to discover a popular pet grooming product overseas that could dramatically cut down grooming time. After testing various products, PetShaper launched their first product in 2022, the PetShaper 7-in-1 Dog Hair Vacuum & Grooming Kit, on Amazon Australia. And since it has become one of the top performing products in the category.

"I saw a similar product overseas, I wondered if they had something like this Australia. I thought if we could save people time and energy, why don’t we create our own version here.”

Pre-launch Plan for PetShaper

Jovahn recalls investing in an online course to learn strategies of product research, supplier sourcing, and optimised listing creation prior to launching in the Amazon store. As he admits, setting up a professional Amazon listing without prior knowledge can be an uphill battle in his opinion. For businesses considering selling on Amazon, the PetShaper team strongly recommends investing in an online course, and watching Amazon Seller University especially for entrepreneurial newcomers lacking prior e-commerce experience.

Amazon is transforming the way PetShaper services their customers

A key factor in PetShaper's success has been their strong relationship with their Amazon account manager, who has provided support with their product launch, promotions, and inventory management. They have leveraged major Amazon sales events like Big Smile Sale and Prime Day to boost visibility and sales.

PetShaper's experience with Fulfilment by Amazon

Further, the business has grown exponentially leveraging the powerhouse capabilities of Amazon’s innovative programs for example, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). The founders credit FBA's hassle-free logistics as a game-changer, eliminating the need to chase orders and shipments.

“Currently most of our revenue comes from selling in the Amazon store, we are leveraging FBA services which is so helpful, as we don’t have to chase up anything!”

Future Plans for PetShaper

Looking ahead, PetShaper represents just one venture in the founders' entrepreneurial pipeline. While focusing on the domestic Australian market presently, their goal for the next 1-2 years is to build PetShaper into a 7-figure brand with an extensive product line within the pet grooming niche. Expansion into other global Amazon marketplaces like the United States of America and other stores is also on the roadmap.
