What is the difference between multi-channel fulfilment and omni channel fulfilment?

Multi-Channel Fulfilment (MCF) and omnichannel fulfilment are two types of fulfilment options used by online sellers to fulfil orders placed by customers on various sales channels. However, there are some differences between these two methods.

MCF refers to the process of fulfilling orders from multiple sales channels using a single fulfilment method. In the case of Amazon, MCF allows online sellers to use Amazon's fulfilment network to fulfil orders from their own website or other third-party marketplaces. With Amazon Australia’s MCF, the seller sends their inventory to Amazon's fulfilment centre, and Amazon takes care of packing and shipping the orders when they are placed on any of the supported sales channels.

Omni channel fulfilment, on the other hand, refers to the process of fulfilling orders from multiple sales channels using multiple fulfilment methods. In other words, omnichannel fulfilment involves using different fulfilment methods to meet the unique needs of each sales channel. For example, a seller may use drop-shipping to fulfil orders on their own website, while using MCF to fulfil orders on Amazon and a third-party logistics provider for orders placed on other stores.

How long does it take to set up MCF for my online store?

However, generally speaking, setting up MCF on Amazon can be done relatively quickly.

If you are already selling on Amazon, you can start using MCF right away by enrolling in the service through your seller account. This involves providing Amazon with some basic information about your business, setting up your MCF settings, and integrating your sales channels with Amazon's MCF service. Amazon provides detailed instructions on how to do this, and the process can typically be completed within a few hours or days, depending on the size and complexity of your inventory.

If you are not yet selling on Amazon, but you have an existing online store or sell on other marketplaces, you will need to first create an Amazon seller account and then enrol in MCF. This can take a bit longer, as you will need to go through the process of setting up your seller account and providing Amazon with all of the necessary information to verify your identity and business details. However, once you are enrolled in MCF, you can start using the service to fulfil orders from your other sales channels right away.

Do you offer custom packaging and branding options?

Amazon will use Amazon branded packaging to ship your orders to your customers. This option is the default option for MCF orders, and it does not incur any additional fees.

How do you handle returns and refunds?

When a customer requests a return or refund, the process is as follows:

The customer contacts you directly to request a return or refund.

Step 2

You process the return or refund request in your online store, just as you would for any other non-Amazon order.

Step 3

Should you want the returned product to be shipped back to Amazon Fulfilment Centres you can generate a return merchandise authorisation (RMA) and track the status of a return by checking your Multi-Channel Fulfilment Order Details under FBA Orders.
Once Amazon receives the returned item, our team will inspect it to ensure that it is in a sellable state.
If so, it will added back to your FBA/MFC inventory.

How do you ensure the accuracy of order fulfilment and inventory management?
